The Role of Books and Passages in ReadWorks
ReadWorks provides over 500 non-fictionreading passages for grades 2-6.
Each passage is 1 to 3 pages long.
Questions for each passage are aligned to the Concepts of Comprehension.
Reading passages feature vocabulary and definitions.
Students read a variety of non-fiction topics to build background knowledge.

Read aloud books are crucial in teaching reading comprehension. It is the only way for students to acquire more sophisticated vocabulary, background knowledge, and textual understanding, especially for those students who cannot yet read with fluency.
Each 5-6 lesson is part of a novel unit
Multiple Concepts of Comprehension are taught within each 5-6 novel unit.
Novel levels are provided using the Fountas and Pinnell and Lexile leveling systems, so that students can engage with texts at their reading level.
